Where do the candidates stand on the Green Line?

Bill Smith

Cancel it entirely. Wait, what?!

image description

Bill will cancel Calgary largest-ever infrastructure project which will eliminate the 20,000 jobs that would be created.

Bill would walk away from $3 billion in provincial and federal funding and leave 100,000 Calgarians without LRT.

“Has there been a bigger boondoggle in our city?” - Calgary Herald

Phase 1 is funded - We're moving forward!

image description

While we build Phase 1, we're already advocating strongly for Phase 2.

Secured $4.65 billion for phase 1 of the Green Line which will provide rapid transit to over 60,000 Calgarians. Over 20,000 direct and indirect constructions jobs will be created. In addition, it will stimulate new transit oriented development, support economic growth and decrease road congestion.

“Nenshi’s advocacy for the Green Line was ‘persistent, relentless, and occasionally annoying,’ Minister Mason joked. The mayor immediately started talking about second-stage funding that would allow building to continue right after the first phase opens.” - Don Braid, Calgary Herald

Andre Chabot

Voted against the Green Line.

image description

Chabot is against using the City’s property taxes for capital projects, as he stated on the Calgary Eyeopener on September 27. But agreements with the federal and provincial governments require the City to put up a third of the funding. Property taxes are the only viable source of these funds.

Where do the candidates stand on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)?

Bill Smith

Bill will cancel the Southwest BRT

Leaving students and employees at Mount Royal University & the Rockyview Hospital without adequate transit connections for years.

Bill will cancel the Southwest BRT (SW BRT), even though it’s already under construction, costing taxpayers millions. Smith would deny SW Calgary residents from having rapid transit access to the downtown core. It would also prevent rapid transit access for residents in both SE and SW Calgary to Mount Royal University, Rockyview Hospital and Heritage Park.

“If elected, I will put a stop to the Southwest Bus Rapid Transit project in its current form and we will reevaluate it. That process could take until the southwest ring road is completed.” - CBC

Naheed Nenshi

Naheed has supported and championed the BRT network city-wide.

image description

The network will provide fast and reliable transit service, while reducing road congestion in many areas of the city.

Naheed spearheaded construction of the BRT network which will provide Calgarians with rapid transit access to each quadrant of the city without going through downtown. The SW BRT will connect residents in the SW to the downtown core. It will also provide direct access to Mount Royal University and the Rockyview Hospital for SE and SW residents.

“Investments in public transit are among the very best investments any government can make. Reducing road congestion, environmental benefits, and saving precious time and money for every user of the road is just the start of it.” - Naheed Nenshi

Is the candidate funded by the anti-transit lobby group, "Ready to Engage"?

Bill Smith

We don't know who funds Bill Smith.

image description

But his campaign communication director was also the spokesperson for "Ready to Engage".

Bill Smith refuses to disclose who is donors are before the election so there is no way for Calgarians to know if he is being funded by "Ready to Engage".

“Smith has said he will not provide a public account of who is donating to his campaign until after the election.” - CBC News

Naheed Nenshi

Over 2,100 donors so far!

Naheed has released his donor list to the public BEFORE the election.

Naheed Nenshi disclosed his donors on Nomination Day and has promised to update his list by Election Day.

“I have consistently advocated for stronger rules and I have ran all my campaigns as if stricter rules are in place. I continue to believe that political campaigns should be about the best ideas, not who has the most money.” - Naheed Nenshi

Andre Chabot

We don't know who funds Andre Chabot.

Andre says he may disclose SOME donors before the election, but some large donors want anonymity.

Andre Chabot says that he may or may not disclose his donors. He hasn’t decided yet. If he discloses, he won’t disclose the donors who asked to keep their names secret.

“I may release some of the smaller donors, but there are some specific donors who asked not to be revealed," said Chabot. "I might reveal my entire list, with the exception of those few that said not to." - Metro Calgary

We know Naheed Nenshi is running for ALL Calgarians, from all backgrounds and walks of life. Who is Bill Smith running for?
